Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Lewis Charles Banks III has always had a strong love for music. At the young age of six, Lewis began learning to play the piano. Later, he began singing and expanding his interests in music. Two years later, with the support of his parents, he began singing and playing the organ at church. Singing in front of the church played a major role in his musical growth. In an effort to further cultivate his musical talent, Lewis attended the School of the Arts (S.O.T.A.) where he was a piano major and a key member of the S.O.T.A. Singers, a singing group that traveled the nation performing and participating in competitions. Lewis competed in and won several talent showcases including the Omega Psi Phi National Talent Hunt held in Rochester and Wilmington, DE., Buffalo's Sunday Best Grand Prize Winner just to name a few. Lewis is a founding member of a quartet later known as Ignysh’n, an R&B group that would go on to travel the nation recording and performing at various events. It was with this group that Lewis decided to pursue music full time.
In an effort to strengthen himself in the music industry, Lewis decided to study music at Tougaloo College in Mississippi. After one year, he rejoined his band mates of Ignysh’n and relocated to Atlanta (Georgia ) where they would begin meeting, performing for and recording with many producers such as Jazze Pha, Hirim Hicks and many others.
Upon returning to Rochester, Lewis returned to his humble beginnings as resident musician at several local churches and also served as Director of Music for several churches. Undaunted, he began writing and producing songs for local talents. Although this brought him some happiness, he could not resist the urge to fulfill his own desire to sing and produce his own material. As a result, Lewis rededicated himself to his own music career and began writing, playing, producing, and recording songs. Through hard work, perseverance, and faith in God, he was able to begin compiling a long list of music throught the years.
Lewis maintains that everything he has is because of the grace of God. As a result, he remains faithful to his local church. Outside of music, he believes that it is important to give back to the community that supports him so greatly. Because of this, he devotes much of his spare time to working with children as a mentor and counselor. He also helps sponsor music camps in an effort to enrich the lives of underprivileged youth.
With the help of God, Lewis plans to continue to create music ranging from messages of God's love to a songs reflecting life experiences, with a desire to not just make music that ears can hear, but to also make music that the heart can feel.
